  • The Story

    The Morning Star symbolizes hope and guidance. Being the brightest star in the sky at dawn, it is the planet Venus in the eastern sky. Used by many Native American tribes, it widely is related to past spirits and ancestors. The Great Plains Indians honor the morning star as a sign of courage and purity of spirit. The Ghost Dance Religion used it as a symbol of the coming renewal of tradition and resurrection of the heroes of the past. 

  • The Legend

    There was also the legendary Chief Morning Star. Born in Montana, Morning Star showed signs of a hero from an early age. He was the chief of the Northern Cheyenne People and considered "an admirable outlaw." Due to determination and courage, it is considered that among Morning Star and other Cheyenne leaders that the Northern Cheyenne still possess homeland in their traditional country, Montana.
